HOSES and QUICK DISCONNECT COUPLERS
One reason Industrial Hydraulic Systems are so versatile
is their use of highly flexible, steel reinforced, rubber coated
connecting hoses. In a sense they are the blood veins of the system.
Hoses can be special ordered to suit your specifications (within reason),
but most popular off-the-shelf models come in at 3, 6, 10, 20 and 50 foot
lengths and generally have a male 1/4 or 3/8 inch NPTF (National Pipe Thread)
fitting on each end.

Rather than tediously
screwing and unscrewing the hoses into different Ram/Cylinders, as needed,
what has become the common practice today is -
One end of the hose is directly screwed into the pump then
a MALE QUICK DISCONNECT COUPLER is screwed onto the other end,
which in turn, with a few twists of your wrist
couples with a FEMALE QUICK DISCONNECT COUPLER mounted onto each ram.
To help proliferate this idea, most all Ram/Cylinders come from the
factory with a FEMALE QUICK DISCONNECT COUPLER already installed.
This keeps the systems flexible, saves time and results in much less oil
dripping on the planet - HOWEVER common Quick Disconnect Couplers DO DRIP
a few drops of oil when uncoupled, unless a special (extra expensive)
Dripless Coupler is used.
Quick Disconnect Couplers also allow easy insertion of Accessories
inbetween the Pumps and Ram/Cylinders.
